Martin Bird
Martin Bird is a Principal & strategic risk consultant at Aon Hewitt and leads the UK Longevity & Risk Solutions Group.
Although Martin has a background as a practising scheme actuary, with experience of advising on all aspects of pensions, he currently spends most of his time providing strategic risk management advice to a range of large UK and multinational clients with schemes ranging in size from £50million to over £30billion.
Martin has led a number of high profile risk transfer transactions and much of his recent work has been in relation to advising clients on longevity swap solutions.
Martin led the Hewitt team that advised BMW on the on the recent £3billion transaction with Abbey Life and also the team was appointed to advise the Pension Protection Fund on longevity risk. Martin has also worked on the other side of the deal, advising both a large financial institution who was considering acting as an investor in a longevity swap and a global re-insurer providing capital for a large risk transfer transaction.
Martin's extensive range of experience allows him to bring insight from both a pension scheme and investor mindset. Martin is frequently quoted in the media and recognised as one of the UK's leading longevity and risk advisers.
Matt Wilmington
Matt Wilmington is a Principal consultant in Aon Hewitt's International Benefits and Global Risk Services practices. He spent the first part of his career advising UK companies and trustees on all aspects of pension funding and risk management. Now focussed on advising multinationals on global pension financing and risk management strategy and implementation, Matt was the author of the recent Hewitt Global Pensions Risk survey and is a frequent speaker on pension risk related matters.
Matt leads the Aon Hewitt European Longevity Solutions Group – a centre of excellence expanding the experience gained by Hewitt in UK longevity risk and its management into Continental Europe.
