COVID-19 Updates

SAI and COVID-19 Update

The Society has put together this page to collate information and updates for our members on Society matters relating to COVID-19.

The health and safety of our members and staff is paramount which is why we have taken necessary steps to reduce the risk of transmission.

Society offices

Please note that the Society's office is currently closed until further notice.  This is to protect staff and volunteers from COVID-19.

All Society staff are working from home and can be contacted by email as normal.

Society Events

Most CPD events planned for the period to the end of May have now been postponed.  Some will go ahead in virtual format, either on the date originally scheduled, or another date soon, so please keep an eye on events emails and this website for details.  We will also let you know about some other sources of online CPD through events emails and the “External Events” section of the website.

Regrettably this means that our Annual Convention will not now take place in May.  However, please save 8th December in your diary – we hope that things will be back to normal by then and that we will be able to assemble for our Convention on that date.

We have also postponed the Graduation Programme that was due to be held in April.  We have contacted all members who had reservations for the event with the new date.

Meanwhile the actuview platform and the IMI offer other opportunities for gaining CPD in 2020.

CPD and Professionalism Training Requirements

In the current exceptional circumstances, Council has decided to adapt the CPD and professionalism training requirements in a way that maintains our commitment to high standards of competence and care whilst recognising the need for flexibility.  Please refer to the CPD webpage for details.

IFoA Members

1.  The IFoA has now confirmed that it will continue to recognise our CPD scheme following the revisions we made to account for the COVID 19 restrictions. Please note that this is (as before) dependent on Members applying to before 31st July. This is a requirement regardless of whether you are a partially or fully regulated member of the IFoA. You can find the application form at…

2. You will still need to have completed 2 hours of Professionalism CPD by 31st August and there will be requirements for their CPD Scheme year that runs from 1st September 2020 to 31st August 2021. These are yet to be announced by the IFoA.

Council, Committees and Working Parties

Council and our Committees and Working Groups are still operating too, through virtual meetings.  Many thanks to all our volunteers for working with us to keep things going as far as possible.

COVID-19 Action Group

At its April meeting, Council decided to establish a COVID-19 Action Group (“CAG”).

The CAG, comprising representatives from the Practice Committees and members who had expressed an interest in getting involved, had an initial Zoom meeting, following which it was agreed to set up two separate subgroups to consider how to address its objectives.

Details of the group's objectives and members of the two sub-groups are available here.

Student Exams

IFoA - Update on COVID19 for students booked onto April 2020 exams

The IFoA have confirmed that written exams will not take place in exam centres in April.  The CP2 and CP3 online assessments will happen as planned, though candidates who wish to withdraw from them will be able to do so.  For most other subjects, the IFoA have offered students the option of taking an online exam.  They will be revising the original exam timetable to accommodate the new online exams.  Regrettably, they have had to cancel the exams in subjects CS1, CS2, CM1 and CM2.

For more information on exams, please visit the IFoA’s “Update on COVID19 for students booked onto April 2020 exams".

Maths Tutorials

All Higher-Level Maths Tutorials have been cancelled for the remainder of this academic year. We will continue to add course materials to our webpage for students to access practice questions, solutions and hints and tips here.
