In-person: Demography Forum 2025

We are pleased to announce details of the 2025 Demography Forum. The following topics are planned to be covered:

  • Angus MacDonald will be presenting details of the recently published paper “On contemporary mortality models for actuarial use II: principles”, which he co-authored.
  • Linda Daly will be presenting details of her recent work, conducted alongside Mary Hall, examining mortality patterns in Ireland and Northern Ireland. This work includes he joint modelling of mortality rates for both populations.
  • The CMI Mortality Projections Committee will be presenting details of CMI_2024, the latest edition of their model for projecting mortality improvements. The presentation will include details on new functionality that has been introduced, and what users of the model should be aware of when producing mortality improvements.

The Demography Committee will provide an overview of their work. An update on current trends in Irish mortality data is also planned.

Biographical details

Angus MacDonald is a Professor Emeritus at Heriot-Watt University. Angus was the director of the Genetics and Insurance Research Centre. 

Linda Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematical Sciences in UCC. Linda’s research primarily focuses on mortality and morbidity analysis.
