EEA Web Session: AI in the Health & Life Sciences - Ethical Challenges of Big Data

Announcement from the EEA organiser:

AI is rapidly evolving into an ever more powerful tool with the potential to reconfigure how we live, work, and address some of the world's most pressing challenges.  From enhancing healthcare and education to improving transport systems and addressing sustainability challenges on a global scale, the applications of AI are far-reaching and potentially highly disruptive.  However, to achieve this potential, AI must be developed, used, and governed in an ethical, inclusive and socio-culturally appropriate manner.  This is essential if AI is to be used to advance human capabilities in a manner which upholds human values, laws, and societal principles.

This session will build on ongoing work being carried out by the DATAETHICS EuroLife Consortium.  DATAETHICS is a transnational project, which aims at updating the conceptual and ethical considerations that arise from Biomedical Big Data collection and use.  The DATAETHICS EuroLife Consortium is supported by an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership grant.

The session will explore the multifaceted relationship between AI, society, culture, ethics, and how we live and work.  There will be an emphasis on the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in AI development and use.  A variety of case studies that critically examine the integration of ethical AI in different contexts and professions will be presented, and frameworks for the development and use of ethical AI will be proposed.
