Pensions Forum 2019

Pension forum 2019, including contributions from Ronan Keane, chair of the pension committee, on committee updates, including Automatic Enrolment developments, Brendan Kennedy, Chief Executive of the Pensions Authority, on transposition and reform issues, Sandra Rockett on Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) investment considerations, Dr Mary Hall DCU on her latest mortality research and Joanne Roche covering an update on automatic enrolment.

Biographical details

Ronan Keane

Ronan Keane is the senior pensions advisor for NewERA, a part of the National Treasury Management Agency that provides corporate financial advisory services to Government departments. Prior to joining NewERA in 2015, Ronan worked as a consulting actuary and held a scheme actuary certificate. He is currently the chair of the Pensions Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

Brendan Kennedy

Brendan Kennedy is Pensions Regulator and chief executive of the Pensions Authority.  He has held this position since 2006.  Brendan has spent almost his entire career in pensions.  Before joining the Authority in 2004, he held a variety of life insurance and consulting positions.  Brendan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management. He also chairs the Technical Committee of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors.

Sandra Rockett

Sandra Rockett is Director of Wealth and Corporate Business at Irish Life Investment Managers and is leading Irish Life’s Responsible Investment Strategy. Previous to this she was Head of Financial Planning and Pensions at Davy. Prior to Davy, Sandra worked in Mercer as an Actuarial Consultant working with a range of public sector and multinational corporate pension clients.

Sandra holds a first class honours degree in Actuarial and Financial Studies from UCD and is a member if the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. She is also a member of the Pension Council of Ireland, the Sustainable and Responsible Investment Forum for Ireland and the Chair of the Society’s ESG Working Group.

Mary Hall

Dr. Mary Hall is an actuary in the School of Mathematical Sciences at DCU.Her research in recent years has been dedicated to the field of mortality with a number of publications in peer reviewed journals including the annals of actuarial science and the British Actuarial Journal.

Prior to her role in academia at DCU and UCD Mary worked in the pensions and IT industries.

Joanne Roche

Joanne is a pensions actuary with KPMG and has specialised in pensions throughout her career to date. She is a member of the pension committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and a member of the Pension Council.
