Mortality Trends in Ireland in the 20th Century
Irish Mortality – Past trends and future projections
Trends in Irish mortality for all causes of death and by major cause of death will be analysed from 1901 to 2006 and compared with mortality rates in Northern Ireland and England and Wales over the same period. The potential for using generalised additive models (GAMs) to project mortality rates will be discussed and compared with methods used by the CMI. As an example, the GAMs will be applied to Irish mortality data and rates projected from 2007. Further details on mortality projections using GAMs can be found at:
