EGM followed by meeting: The Latest on United States Mortality, Lapse, and Underwriting
An Extraordinary General Meeting of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland will take place at 6.30pm. You must be a Fellow of the SAI to attend this EGM. Papers are available here (member login required).
The Evening Meeting will take place immediately following the EGM.
Al Klein has just completed the largest survey ever completed of mortality and lapse experience in the United States. The survey covered almost $28 Trillion in exposure over a nine year period. Experience is based on 1.6 million deaths and 8.1m lapses. The scale of the survey means that he could investigate detailed issues that would not have previously been possible.
This work has direct relevance for those who have business in the United States. However some of the results also have implications for Irish mortality and will help actuaries to understand trends that may exist in their portfolios.
In addition to reviewing the survey Al will also comment on some of the trends in mortality cover in the United States and some of the new underwriting techniques being used.
While the EGM is restricted to members, the evening meeting is open to non-members.
