The Society has today issued two press releases following our President's Conference on 'Towards a Fairer Future' that took place on 8th November.  

Today’s society faces many complex challenges. The Conference examined key issues in the Pensions, Health and Housing sectors in Ireland and considered how we can address those issues in a way that meets the needs of current and future generations.

The Society has today issued a press release on Ireland's Risk Equalisation system following its healthcare seminar today which brought together international and domestic experts to discuss how cross subsidies in the health insurance market can be modified in the future.

The Society of Actuaries in Ireland has today issued a press release warning that the new information disclosure regime for consumers under European PRIIPs (Packaged Retail Investment and Insurance Products) regulations has the potential to be misleading.  We have called for changes when the new regime is next reviewed.  The press release is available here.

The Society made a submission to the recent Health Insurance Authority consultation on Lifetime Community Rating, and has issued a press release which highlights the key finding in the submission.  

The growth in ‘Average Private Health Insurance Premiums’ in Ireland has consistently outstripped economic growth over time and is expected to continue to be in excess of economic growth in the future.  This is one of the conclusions in an analysis published today (Nov 10, 2016 ) by the Society.

The Society of Actuaries in Ireland has told the ‘Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure & Reform, and Taoiseach’ that evidence-based research is vital to underpin informed policy-making on the costs of motor insurance.

‘The Future of the State Pension’ was the theme of a major conference hosted today by the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. The conference follows the publication last year of a research report by Milliman on the financial sustainability of the state pension in Ireland. The Society of Actuaries in Ireland and PublicPolicy.ie commissioned this research with a view to stimulating constructive debate on this subject.

The Society today issued a press release welcoming the coming into force of Solvency II from 1st January 2016.

The Society of Actuaries in Ireland has published a research report on the Financial Sustainability of the State Pension in Ireland.  The report, produced by Milliman, was commissioned by the Society and PublicPolicy.ie, with a view to informing debate and public policy decisions.

Pensions Council

The Society of Actuaries in Ireland welcomes the Tánaiste’s announcement of the membership of the Pensions Council. 

The Council’s function is to advise the Minister for Social Protection on matters of pensions policy.  Including Brendan Kennedy, Chief Executive of the Pensions Authority, the twelve-person Council includes five of the Society’s Fellow members – the others being Roma Burke, Tony Gilhawley, Sandra Rockett and Dr Shane Whelan – each of whom has a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to offer. 

The Society has today issued a press release welcoming the Government’s decision to establish an expert group to formulate plans for a universal retirement savings scheme for private-sector workers. 

The Society has today issued a press release announcing the appointment of Philip Shier, a Past President of the Society, as Vice Chairperson of the Actuarial Association of Europe.  The Society congratulates Philip on his appointment.
