Message from SAI President, Roz Briggs:
I was delighted by the response to my email in December, which led to some 50 members along with invitees from the Pensions Authority, Dept of Finance, Financial Planning Standards Board and others, meeting to diagnose the current state of the end-to-end DC journey. Thanks to everyone for such great interest and enthusiasm for this topic! We’re ready to harness the energy and start moving towards actionable steps so we’d be delighted if you could join our lunchtime webinar on 29th May to hear more (details below).
Firstly, by way of a quick re-cap, our February meeting was arranged into 6 teams who discussed respectively:
- Consumer knowledge & dashboards
- Advice
- Investment Vehicles
- Longevity
- Regulatory Framework
- Use of the home
Each team was presented with a “Principle” which proposed to summarise the ideal state of the market in that area. The team was then asked to:
- Refine the Principle and scope so it conformed with the team’s view of how that central plank should be described; and
- Critique how the current pensions system/framework measured up against the Principle.
We heard from each team on the day and we had great note-takers in place to record the proceedings. Taking those inputs, a small working group digested the discussions and brainstormed a range of activities that the Society could initiate in pursuit of an improved DC framework (in many cases likely in co-operation with other stakeholders).
At lunchtime on 29th May 2025, we will host a webinar where the working group will update you on the outputs from the workshop and the subsequent deliberations.
The update will be of particular interest to those who attended the February Workshop, but I should stress that the webinar is open to all members who have an interest in the area and you are free to invite colleagues to attend. There is lots to be done here and the more willing participants we have, the better!
Thank you again for your fantastic support and look forward to working with you to making progress in this area.
