The WiDS Datathon is an annual event organised by Women in Data Science Worldwide. The Datathon presents a very exciting opportunity for both aspiring data scientists and data science enthusiasts to discover and hone data science skills while solving an interesting and critical social challenge. WiDS Datathon 2024 Challenge Theme: Equity in Healthcare - The 2024 Datathon focusses on equity in healthcare, with sponsor Gilead Sciences providing rich data on metastatic breast cancer treatment, providers, facilities, insurance coverage and patients. Participants will analyse a unique dataset to identify possible inequities in patient care, such as treatment duration and time to adoption of treatment.
LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE - The SAI has limited spaces available for interested members to take part in a 2024 WiDS Datathon workshop, therefore it is based on a first come first served basis. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 16th April via Zoom and participants must be willing and available to take part in the next 2024 WiDS Datathon Challenge which will run until 1st June. All are welcome. The workshop will cater for beginner and intermediate levels of expertise.
REGISTRATION - To register your interest in the WiDS Datathon workshop, please make a reservation by COB, Tuesday, 2nd April 2024.
NOTE: If you would like to form your own Datathon team with other SAI members, please include the names of your preferred teammates in the comment box when making your reservation. Each team should be at least 50% female.
ALSO NOTE: Please also include in the comment box that you are indeed able to contribution to a team up to 1st June 2024.
NB: As a security measure, there is a two-step registration process before you receive the link to join any webinar. The first step is to register your interest in attending a webinar by making a reservation for an event via the Society’s website. You will receive a link to then register via the Zoom platform. It is after this second registration step that you will receive the link to join the webinar.
The agenda for the workshop is as follows:
- Team Formation
- Datathon Teams can have up to 4 participants. The SAI will form teams from workshop participants. Participants also have the option to form their own teams in advance of the workshop.
- Each team must have at least 2 female members
- Meet Your Mentor: Each Datathon Team will be assigned an experienced data science mentor who will provide ongoing support and guidance up to the final Datathon submission date of 1st June 2024.
