Traditional approaches to mental health underwriting are based on historic data and medical practices. These practices have moved on significantly, impacting on how we interpret historic data and the impact on future mortality and morbidity.
This session will cover how we have challenged conventional approaches to underwriting and risk selection to develop an approach that aligns current practices, customer and broader interests with robust risk assessment.

Scott Cadger, Head of Protection Underwriting, Claims and Commercial Strategy, Scottish Widows, Lloyds Banking Group
Scott is a qualified actuary at Scottish Widows, part of Lloyds Banking Group. Having previously worked in financial reporting and protection pricing roles, he moved to head up the Protection Underwriting and Claims Strategy team in 2014. Since then, he has been heavily involved in the launch of Scottish Widows into the intermediated market, as well as designing new products and underwriting approaches right across the protection market.
