Directors' Interest Group Event
This event is open to Fellows or Associates who are currently, or in the recent past have been, Executive or Non-Executive Directors of financial institutions, and to actuaries who aspire to become INEDs in financial institutions. We have a registered list of people who fall into one of these categories and are interested in attending events.
Event details:
2015 is the last year of implementation of Solvency II, which comes into full force on 1 January 2016. In preparation for the new regime, insurance company Directors are coming to terms with some important changes in the requirements for governance, risk and capital management. The next Director Interest Group event, to be held in the Shelbourne Hotel on Thursday 12th March, will address two of the key questions which Directors are asking, namely:
How much capital is required to be held in a Solvency II world?
How does the Board get assurance in areas of actuarial involvement?
The event will consist of two sessions of one hour each, which will deal with these questions. The sessions will be introduced by Michael Culligan of Milliman and Ronan Mulligan of PwC, both experienced practitioners in the area of Solvency II. Following their opening presentations on the two questions, there will be opportunity for sharing of views and debate. Ultimately, we anticipate that this event can generate a set of questions which insurance company directors in general should be asking at this time of transition.
Following this event, and given the topicality and importance of the debate, we will hold a dinner in the nearby Bang Cafe (cost €50) after the main event. Networking is a key aim of the group and the leadership group feels that this event would be enhanced by an opportunity to continue in less formal surroundings. We hope that attendees will also stay for dinner.
To summarise, the event will take place in the Shelbourne Hotel on Thursday 12th March at 4 for a 4:30 start, with dinner to follow in Bang Cafe at 7:00.
