Biographical details

An increasing proportion of an individual’s retirement income is now coming from money purchase accounts, and this trend is likely to continue into the future. Therefore, the decision regarding the format and provider of retirement income is now more important than ever. This session will consider the relative merits of conventional annuities and approved retirement funds (ARFs), and consider how pension actuaries can play a role in advising individuals when making at-retirement decisions.

The event will include:

  • Background and technical details on conventional annuities and ARFs with particular emphasis on the differences between the two;
  • A debate between proponents of ARFs and proponents of conventional annuities;
  • An open floor discussion on member options at retirement
