Solvency II – a pan-European perspective

This talk will be a wide-ranging review of the Solvency 2 development and some of the potential implications for European insurance markets, including discussion of the role of the actuarial profession both as a stakeholder in this development and post Solvency 2 implementation. The talk should provide context for an interactive discussion of the implications of Solvency 2.

Biographical details

Seamus Creedon is senior vice-president of the Institute and chair of the Member Support Executive Committee. He is also current manager of the Solvency II project of Groupe Consultatif Actuariel Europeen, leading the contribution of more than fifty actuaries from throughout the European Union to establishing the new supervisory and accounting framework. He is in this capacity an observer at the Board for Actuarial Standards. He is affiliated with KPMG Europe, having been a partner in the firm until 2003, and is a non-executive director of a number of UK and Irish insurers. Before joining KPMG his career was in life assurance and in banking both in the United Kingdom and in Ireland. In addition to full membership of the Institute and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland he is also a member of North American actuarial bodies and is vice-chair if the Enterprise and Financial Risks Committee of the International Actuarial Association. Seamus lives mainly in London and acknowledges that his partner and his elder son also both are actuaries!
