The Society of Actuaries in Ireland's Demography Committee has published a report examining the level of excess all-cause mortality experienced in Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic. The report offers insights beyond the tally of reported COVID-19 fatalities.  

Focusing specifically on the first two years of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021, it examines excess deaths as a metric in understanding the pandemic's impact.

The SAI has provided a response to the Department of Finance on its recent consultation paper for a review of the Standard Fund Threshold regime in the Irish pensions landscape.

We are delighted to announce that Colm Fagan, a Past President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, is a co-winner of the inaugural Frank Redington Prizes, awarded by the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). 

Frank Redington (1906 – 1984) is widely recognised as a great thinker who brought forward prolific new ideas, and one of the most influential actuaries of all time. 

The Society of Actuaries in Ireland has expressed concerns about the regulation of pension schemes.

Investment Approaches to AE : Submission to the Department of Social Protection

The Terms of Reference of the Finance & Investment Committee state, inter alia, that:

“The Committee shall annually review the base financial & economic assumptions for use by Practice Committees in setting assumptions in ASPs and make recommendations to Council”.
