Lifelong Learning

The role of the Committee is to provide leadership and oversight in relation to the range of learning and development opportunities that the Society of Actuaries in Ireland makes available to its members in support of the Society's Mission, which is to:

  • serve and support all our members in their education, their ongoing development and their work so that members, in all types of roles, succeed in their careers and wider contributions.
  • develop the profile of the profession, promoting the value of the actuarial skillset in navigating the complex financial and risk landscapes within which modern companies operate.
  • influence the education system for actuaries to ensure, in its totality, it remains fit for purpose for members and the organisations in which they operate.

SAI competency framework

An important tool provided by the Society of Actuaries in Ireland is the competency framework which is comprised of the knowledge, skills and attributes that actuaries typically draw on in their work. The purpose of the competency framework is to support members in the identification of their learning and development needs, in relation to both their current role and any future roles to which they aspire. By reviewing the detailed competencies within the framework and considering what competencies might typically be expected for a given role, members can identify gaps in their own current competency profile. The frameworks also allows members to identify which parts of the Society’s Continuing Professional Development programme are relevant to the development and enhancement of specific competencies.

More information on the competency framework is located here: SAI Competency Framework | Society of Actuaries in Ireland
