Captain's Day 2025
We are delighted to announce that the 2025 Captain’s Day will take place on Thursday, 4th September at Lisheen Springs Golf Club.
The course is good for those on both high and low handicaps, good for those just learning to play golf and those who have played for many years. The SAI Golf Society Captain’s Day is a great opportunity to socialise with fellow members.
Guests are very welcome. If doing so, please state their name(s) when entering online.
The entry fee is €80, which covers Golf, Prizes and Food.
The winners of the prizes will be announced at the prize-giving dinner, immediately after the golf.
Message from the SAI Golf Captain, Colm Fitzgerald:
To encourage particularly younger members to come along, I'm introducing a new Captains's Prize for Student and Recently Qualified Actuaries. Like the way golf clubs have prizes for Junior and Juvenile golfers to encourage them and help bring them through. If you're on the border of "recently qualified", you can decide which category you are in, and which prize you want to try to win. I'm hoping the chance to become the inaugural winner is something that will attract younger members to come along and join in.
We are also considering other new prizes, some team prizes and ones for higher handicaps, and in particularly those starting off. Watch this space.
The plan is to keep the traditional timesheet approach from previous Captains' Days.
But also to offer other options for those attending. More specifically, whenever I meet old students from my days in DCU or UCD, or even talking to other actuarial students on tuition courses, I usually ask if they are in touch with their old classmates from college. Most usually seem like they'd like to catch up with their old classmates more often. So I'm aiming to run this year's Captain's Day in a way to help organise mini-class reunions. If you sign up, if you like, we can get you in a time slot to play with some of your old classmates, be they from a specific class, college or for those who did the exams while working. That said, you can express a preference or take the default option which will be the traditional timesheet allocation approach.
Personally, I really enjoy class reunions and meeting up with those with whom I shared the actuarial journey. It helps keep me in touch with my younger self. There's a nice energy to that.
