In-person: Society of Actuaries in Ireland and Morgan McKinley Careers Event
The Society of Actuaries in Ireland and Morgan McKinley have come together to organise an actuarial careers event, which will be held in University College Cork (UCC), on Thursday, 14th March from 2.00pm - 3.00pm.
Members of the Society will talk about their careers, such as their early actuarial career, various exam routes, graduate job advice and the key skills of an actuary.
- Early actuarial careers, the various exam routes, and graduate job advice.
- Key skills of an actuary part 1: Actuarial skills in forecasting and stress testing of scenarios to inform decision making with special reference to banks. The topic will cover how profit and balance sheet modelling assists in strategic initiatives such as loan acquisition or sale, writing new business lines, and use of capital such as for dividend payments.
- Key skills of an actuary part 2: Asset liability management with reference to the choice of investments to match a reinsurance company’s liabilities to pay claims to cedants taking into account investment risk and insurance risk.
- Application of actuarial skills in aviation leasing. Actuarial science has applications beyond banking and insurance and is a highly valued skill in aviation lease pricing and asset liability management where leased aircraft are financed by loans.
- Opportunities for UCC graduates with actuarial skills in Cork and Dublin
Luke is a graduate of UCC and a member of the Banking and Aviation Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is currently a Market Risk Analyst with Goldman Sachs in Dublin.
Niall is a member of the Banking and Aviation Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is currently Head of Capital Management for AIB Group.
Adia is a member of the Banking and Aviation Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. She is currently Reinsurance Investment Manager at Athora.
John is chair of the Banking and Aviation Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is currently Director of Investment Management and Innovation at the Carne Group.
