Opening the world of catastrophe models
Announcement from the EIOPA organiser:
EIOPA is organising an event on open source catastrophe models. Data and models on climate-related risks are crucial to improve the accuracy of climate risk assessment for the ultimate benefit of policyholders as well as of the insurance industry, the supervisory community and the public sector in general. EIOPA aims to support the modelling and management of climate change risks, by promoting the development of open-source models. This should reduce the costs of running climate change analyses, foster innovation, raise awareness of the risks…
In this regard, EIOPA has developed a user interface which should facilitate the use of the open-source catastrophe model CLIMADA. The CLIMADA-app aims to encourage further developments, help stakeholders to start modelling catastrophe in an easy way to better understand their risks… This is in line with EIOPA’s efforts to build a bridge between the latest development in climate science and the insurance industry/supervisors.
During the event, EIOPA will release the CLIMADA-app as well as discuss other initiatives promoting open-source approaches.
