Assessing the proposed auto-enrollment pension scheme

Announcement from the  TASC organiser:

This event aims to provide a forum to discuss the government’s draft legislation on auto-enrolment to a new state-run pension scheme for workers who are not already members of an occupational or private pension scheme. At present, very large sections of our population will be without adequate incomes in retirement unless further provision is made for good supplementary pensions.

Agenda

Tim Duggan, senior official in the Department of Social Protection will outline the main elements of the proposed new legislation and explain where it now stands following the end of a consultation period hosted by the relevant Oireachtas Committee.

His presentation will be followed by responses and suggestions by:

  • Rosheen Callender, economist who worked for many years in Ireland’s largest trade union

  • Colm Fagan, actuary and Past President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

After this, three eminent speakers will respond to these suggestions and make further comments:

  • John Fitzgerald, Member of Society of Actuaries in Ireland.
  • Dr. Donal de Butleir,
  • Dr. Laura Bambrick (ICTU)

There will then be time for more comments, questions and discussion about this crucially important subject for future pensioners and Irish society as a whole
