On behalf of the International Actuarial Association’s (IAA) Banking Virtual Forum in collaboration with the Actuarial Society of Turkey, we are pleased to invite you to join the upcoming webinar entitled: Actuaries in Banking.

This webinar focuses on actuaries in banking where we will highlight opportunities that exist for actuaries in banking. Different actuarial jurisdictions are at various stages of recognising the relevance of actuaries in banking. South Africa and Australia currently lead in this area, with more than 10% of their membership currently practising in banking.

This event may be of interest to those working in the Banking industry as well as actuaries working in the insurance and other areas within financial services. You are welcome to forward this invitation to anyone who you know that may find this webinar to be of interest and would like to join the webinar.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, 15 September 2022 at 1.00 pm GMT.

The total duration of this event will be for 75 minutes including a question-and-answer session at the end.

Biographical details

Mr. Sezai Sevgin will talk about the role of banks in supporting economic growth and about the main risk in banking, credit risk, ALM (liquidity and interest rate) risk, ICAAP and ILAP, stress testing frameworks, model risk management and validation frameworks of the banks with a focus on AI/ML models and big data. Mr. Sevgin is a Deputy Chief Executive responsible for Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Internal Control and Information Security at İşbank. İşbank is the largest private bank in Turkey with a consolidated asset size of TL 1.2 trillion, owns the largest distribution franchise countrywide, and has an international presence in 11 countries with 21 branches, 2 rep. offices and 3 bank subsidiaries. Having started his professional life in İşbank in 1990, Mr. Sevgin has served as an inspector, branch manager in domestic and foreign branches, has been the group manager of the corporate marketing, head of commercial marketing division and took senior management roles in various group companies throughout his career.

Mr. Iain Allan will talk about his career in banking and will give examples of where actuaries can use their skills and experience in banking. Iain was Group Director, Strategy at RBS (now known as NatWest) for 15 years and has subsequently worked as an independent consultant in banking. Iain is an Honorary Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance at Bayes Business School in London.

Mr. Michael Tichareva will talk about the progress made by ASSA over the last 10 years in developing a practice area in banking for actuaries and about ASSA’s recent co-operation with the IFoA on banking courses for actuaries. Michael has more than 20 years of experience across different practice areas including banking. Michael is Executive Chairman of Claxon Actuaries, based in Johannesburg. Michael is a Fellow of the IFoA and of ASSA.
