Being able to challenge effectively is key to the role of an INED. This event will explore the importance of effective challenge for high performing boards and how best to deliver it.
This webinar is targeted specifically at Independent Non-Executive Directors (INEDs), Executive Directors or anyone intending to become an INED in the near future. It is also open to non-members who may express an interest in this event.
The event will be a panel discussion. We will be joined by a very distinguished group of speakers: Ann Kelleher, Evelyn Bourke and Pat Healy. The panel discussion will be chaired by Tom Barry and you will have the opportunity to ask or type questions on the day.

Ann Kelleher
Ann has been CEO of Ark Life since 2012. Ark Life is part of the Phoenix Group. Prior to becoming CEO of Ark, Ann was Operations Director in Aviva Ireland Life and Pensions and prior to that she spent a number of years with Bank of Ireland’s life and pensions subsidiary where she held roles in Operations, HR and Legal.
Ann is also a non-executive director of Allianz plc, a domestic non-life insurer.
Ann has been Chair of the Life Council of Insurance Ireland since February 2017 and has been President of Insurance Ireland since April 2019.
A UCD law graduate and a qualified solicitor, Ann also has an MSC in Business Administration from Trinity and is a Chartered Director with the Institute of Directors.
Evelyn Bourke
Evelyn retired as the Group CEO of Bupa on the 31st December 2020. She was appointed Group CEO in July 2016 after acting as CEO since April 2016. She was the CFO from Sept 2012. Previously Evelyn worked at Standard Life and Friends Provident in financial director and Board roles. She spent 10 years in consulting in the UK with Tillinghast Towers Perrin (now part of WTW).
Evelyn started out by training as an actuary in Ireland with New Ireland Assurance and Bank of Ireland.
In 1987, she and Yvonne Lynch were the first two women in Ireland to complete all the exams of the Institute of Actuaries.
Evelyn is a non executive Director of Bank of Ireland Group, Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Risk Committee. She also sits on the Board of London First and in February she joined the Board of M&S plc.
Evelyn has an MBA from London Business School. She is a native of Tipperary, grew up on a farm as the oldest of six, and is married to Seamus Creedon, also an actuary.
Pat Healy
Pat spent the first half of his career largely in investment roles with Irish Life, AIB and Riada/ABN-AMRO Stockbrokers. He then worked with the AXA Group as CFO of their Irish non-life business and later as CEO of AXA Life Europe. He was on the board of New Ireland for nine years including five as Chairman.
He is currently an independent director of RSA Insurance Ireland, Architas Multi-Manager Europe, AXA Global Healthcare and AXA Ireland Pension Trustees. In 2020 he was appointed to the Independent Governance Committee of Prudential Assurance. He was President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland from 2003 to 2005 and he was a board member of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board for seven years. Over his career he has occupied virtually every seat at the board table including Finance Director, CEO, Group NED, INED and Chair.
Tom Barry
Tom is Chairman of New Ireland Assurance. He is also an INED for the past 10 years, former Chief Executive of Canada Life in Ireland, a former President of Insurance Ireland and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland
