Benefits of volunteering in the not-for-profit sector - followed by our annual Christmas Drinks
The Society is pleased to announce details of our SAI Annual Christmas Drinks which takes place on Tuesday 4th December in the Alex Hotel from 6.30pm.
Members are invited to join us on the evening for a drink and some finger food and to kick off the festive season! As always, it is a great opportunity for members to meet before the festive season and an ideal networking event.
The Christmas Drinks will be preceded by an SAI Presentation on 'Benefits of volunteering in the not-for-profit sector'.
As the season most associated with gift giving fast approaches, we thought it timely to highlight what a difference giving up some of your time and skills might make to the wider community. We have a strong volunteer ethic within the Society already with many of you giving time to the Society itself and to young people through our Maths Tutorials. We also know many of the membership are already active in their communities or with charities but some others might like to know how to get involved or what to expect once you take the plunge. This presentation should answer some of those questions.
A representative from Boardmatch Ireland, will join us to discuss the work they do to improve governance in the not-for-profit sector by strengthening boards and management committees. They will discuss the services Boardmatch provides to volunteers and companies to help them support charities in improving and strengthening their board composition.
We will also be joined by two Society members who will discuss their personal experiences of working with charities such as Diversity Sligo (a charity working with refugees and asylum seekers in direct provision in Sligo) and the Simon Community, and highlight the surprising applicability of actuarial skills in charity work.
