Responsible Investment - will it be market or policy driven... or both?
SIF Ireland, the national Sustainable and Responsible Investment Forum, and Irish Life are hosting the above event, which will look at whether the adoption of Responsible Investment in Ireland will be market or policy driven, or driven by a combination of both factors.
This event will revisit the what, why and how of Responsible Investment and will focus in on one of the key challenges that is often raised by pension fund trustees in relation to integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into investment processes and decision-making, namely that it would be a breach of their fiduciary duty to beneficiaries to take non-financial factors into account.
The speakers will address what fiduciary duty means today, and will put forward the argument that failure to consider all long-term investment value drivers, including ESG issues, is in fact a failure of fiduciary duty. This will be followed by an overview of upcoming EU legislation in this area that will impact both asset owners and asset managers and a summary of the recommendations outlined in the Ireland Roadmap for Fiduciary Duty in the 21st Century, the report that will be launched at the event.
