Call for Speakers - Life Forum 2025

The Life Committee is in the planning stages for the 2025 Life Forum and is inviting expressions of interest from members who would like to deliver a session at this event.

We are holding the Life Forum 2025 on the Thursday 15th May 2025, as an in-person event, in the Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road, Dublin 4.

We also plan on recording the presentations for uploading to a secure platform, which will be made available after the event has taken place.

We previously conducted a survey among our members regarding the topics they are most interested in discussing at the life forum. Here is a summary of the most frequently mentioned responses along with some other topical issues for consideration:

Climate Change: Climate change, sustainability, climate change impacts on Life Insurance, materiality assessments, climate scenarios
Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence & Modelling: Big data insights, data and systems, data analysis workflows, new modelling techniques applicable to life insurance
Life Insurance Industry and Market updates: Current outlook, issues, developments, Life Insurance hot topics, market updates (interest rate volatility, inflation, etc), Value for money for customers
Product design: Product design, Product governance/Product development, Product innovation, considerations and risk mitigation for long duration life products, new products being offered in the market, product related items such as design, product development, product learnings from outside Ireland
IFRS17: Post implementation developments
Mortality: Post COVID expectations for mortality/morbidity, mortality and persistency investigations, mortality improvements, emerging trends in mortality experience
Risk: Risk management, cyber risk, risk modelling, emerging risks, sustainability risk, geopolitical risk, model risk management
Pricing: Pricing in Life Assurance (e.g. bulk annuity pricing), data analysis & modelling topics to enhance pricing capabilities, pricing and any new tech in that space, macroeconomic considerations, new products being offered in the market, impacts on Sol UK on IRL; Macroeconomic factors (e.g., interest rates, political instability in Europe) and how these should be reflected in pricing; the skillset of the 'modern' L&H actuary
Regulation: Regulatory matters, emerging topics, regulations in the consumer space, future regulatory changes, regulatory update, regulatory developments, SEAR
Solvency II Review: Update, recent developments
Sustainability: Emerging sustainability regulation, sustainability risk in reserving

Expressions of Interest from Speakers:

If you are interested in participating at this year’s SAI Life Forum, please email events@actuaries.ie by Wednesday, 12th March 2025 to express your interest. Please provide a short outline of your proposal, covering the following:

  • Topic and format of session (e.g., presentation followed by Q&A, Panel Discussion, etc.)
  • The technical level of knowledge that the audience would need in order to understand the topic (beginner / intermediate / advanced)
  • If the speakers are decided: the employer and contact details for each speaker
  • Whether the session has been (or will/might be) delivered elsewhere and if so, where and when
  • If the session includes Professionalism
  • The speaker’s consent to record their presentation (excl. the Q&A segment)
  • The proposed length for each session is approx. 45 mins and this will include approximately 10 mins for Q&A.
