Biographical details

Grainne Newman: Grainne is a senior investment consultant in Mercer, with over 14 years’ experience in the investment industry. She partners with some of the largest Irish DC clients across a full range of investment consulting issues, including investment strategy, implementation and changes in the DC investment landscape.  Prior to joining Mercer in 2006, Grainne worked with a global pensions consultancy in Dublin for a number of years where she provided actuarial and consultancy support to pension clients. Grainne also worked in an investment management business in Ireland for a number of years, and an employee benefits consultancy prior to that.  Grainne is a member of the IAPF Investment Committee. She has also contributed to a number of working parties with the Society of Actuaries, including the Society’s responses to the Pension Consultations process currently in train.

John Gethin:  With over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector John has held a number of senior roles with leading industry players. Having set up KBC Life and Pensions, John currently heads Ireland's first digital life insurer. Challenging industry norms, John and his team have built a full end to end digital pension proposition that is completely unique in the Irish market. Informed by behavioural economic principles and deep consumer research the multi-award winning ‘Thumb Powered Pensions’ puts the pension saver in control and supports their retirement journey with a seamless user experience. With a keen interest in behaviour, in 2021 John was awarded a first class honours degree in Psychology.
