Three lines of defence – Where does the CRO’s role start and end? (BREAKFAST MEETING)

This session will be focussed on the 3 lines of defence risk governance operating model and understanding in particular where the CRO’s role starts and ends.



The presentation will include :

  • Some background and context on the key drivers of risk governance practices and how they are evolving.
  • An outline of the three lines of defence operating model and how it has been impacted by SII.
  • Discussion of some of the challenges around the model in terms of clarity of roles for key players, in particular the CRO.
  • The importance of risk culture in the implementation of any risk governance system.
  • How the CRO interacts with the risk governance system and how the CRO can add value.

Biographical details

Sinead is a Director in Deloitte’s Actuarial and Insurance Solutions practice and leads Deloitte’s non-life practice, working on a wide range of assignments including Solvency II and risk management.  Sinead is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries. She is  a member of the ERM committee, a Council member and is also Treasurer of the Society. Prior to joining Deloitte, Sinead worked in the reinsurance industry and in the credit insurance and financial guarantee sector.



Anlo is a chartered accountant who has been working in the financial services industry since 2000. Her experience includes being an external audit manager with Deloitte as well as being the Head of Internal Audit for 2 operations of an insurance multinational. Anlo's current role focuses on providing financial services clients with control assurance, internal audit, and risk advisory services.



Angela is a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Life actuarial team and works in a number of different areas Ireland’s including reserving, MCEV and Solvency 2, as well as working with a wide range of audit clients. Angela is a fellow of the SAI and is a member of the Life Committee. Prior to joining Deloitte, Angela worked in Aviva where she was Head of Capital and Risk, responsible for economic capital reporting, investments, With-Profits business and reinsurance.
